French designer Thierry Gaugain, a frequent collaborator of famed designer Philippe Starck, has unveiled his vision for a ‘palace on rails’.
The $350 million private “G Train” project is rediscovering the luxury train travel experience with the modern yacht experience in mind. The 400-meter train consists of 14 carriages and glass is so technologically advanced that it can switch from opaque to completely transparent. Passengers can also “change the atmosphere of the train’s interior in any part,” Gaugain says. If they want to see outside, they can switch to transparent mode. If they want to create their own view, they can simply change the glass to opaque with any scene they want.
The romance of the G train is not so much the speed of travel, but the journey itself.
