Kirsty and Jesse’s honeymoon is really over.

All the goodwill they built up by being nice and decent people, and the sympathy they aroused when Kirsty’s beloved grandmother died, has gone out the window, replaced by suspicion and jealousy.

It all stems from the fact that they have the biggest house on the biggest block, and the other contestants don’t believe they can really afford the lush backyard they’re building.

Why the knives are out for Kirsty and Jesse

The participants all get exactly the same budgets, regardless of the size of the house. Kirsty and Jesse’s house and garden are at least twice the size of the other contestants and three times the size of Tanya and Vito’s.

And while they’ve won a few rooms, the others don’t think it’s enough to explain how they pay for it.

The main agitators are Luke and Josh, but the other participants are equally sussed about the whole thing.

Even convicted impostors Tanya and Vito have the audacity to claim the high moral ground.

“There are block rules that have to happen and if one gets an unfair advantage, how is that fair to anyone else?” asks Tanya, to which the only sensible answer is looooooooool.

Ronnie even goes into Kirsty and Jesse’s backyard to count traditions, and when he finds 48, he just keeps bleating about it.

Especially since he and Georgia, and Kirsty and Jesse share the services of Block landscape legend Dave Franklin, and Ronnie claims he barely saw him.

“Dave Franklin was a bit of a disappointment because he spends all his time in House 5,” he says.

Josh is even sharper.

“Jesse is nice, we have no problem with Jesse, but Kirsty is pointing us in the wrong direction,” he says.

“Jesse’s a nice guy, but there’s something wrong with Kirsty,” Luke agrees.

The antipathy may stem from that time early in the series, when Kirsty called the boys’ builder to help them paint, a violation of The Block’s cardinal rule.

The bitterness was not mitigated by Kirsty and Jesse winning a bonus point after buyers attorney Danny Wallace chose their home as his favorite.

Oddly enough, in the same challenge, their home came in last in a vote of 100 potential buyers.

As Scott Cam and Shelley Craft do their weekly rounds, all the other contestants raise the issue of possible excuses at house number five, but Scott Cam has none of it.

“Why are you going about counting transactions?” He asks Luc. “Stay with your own.”

Which Block team gets caught breaking rules again

Scott points out that some of the 48 traditions were block builders to do structural work that each home gets, others were traditional crafts that Kirsty and Jesse hired using the Hipages bonus each couple gets, and the others were paid by them to win by winning the half week. and also pick up an extra $20,000 for their two perfect tens.

They’ve also used every last bit of their sponsorship dollars this week.

And when Scott and Shelley get to Kirsty and Jesse, Kirsty also points out, “We’ve been saving up for this all season.”

It doesn’t stop the rumours, though, with Josh and Luke convincing the other contestants that Kirsty and Jesse have somehow negotiated free limestone for their seating area by the fire pit, which would be a violation of Block rules against accepting free or greatly reduced labor or materials.

Kirsty is unfazed.

“We don’t have to answer to anyone. Ask away, boys,” she says.
